NEW YORK, July 15, 2026 -- Orbital published the 200 Most Talked-About Independent Restaurants in America today. It is the first edition of the list. We track all 620,000+ independent restaurants in the US, and over the last 90 days that meant 1,874,895 Google reviews. The 200 places on this list grew theirs faster than everyone else.

No chains qualify. Every spot is a single location, independently owned. Past that bar the only thing we ranked was review growth, so fame counts for nothing. A roadside Greek diner in Baker, California sits on the same list as Tavern on the Green.

The winner is a Chicago diner: Ed Debevic's grew its reviews 25% in 90 days, the fastest in the country. Gyuzo Japanese BBQ in Rockville, Maryland is No. 2 at 19%. Taj Cafe in Ventura, California is No. 3 at 17%.

Florida owns this list: 65 of the 200 restaurants are in Florida. No other state comes close. New York is next with 18.

Small towns beat famous names: Props Steak and Seafood in Warner Robins, Georgia is No. 50, 17 spots ahead of Joe's Stone Crab. Kyllo's Seafood & Grill in Lincoln City, Oregon is No. 92, ahead of Union Oyster House (No. 109) and Tavern on the Green (No. 181).

Indian food is having a moment: 11 Indian restaurants made the list, and 3 sit in the top 8. Taj Cafe is No. 3, Aashirwad Indian Food & Bar in Orlando is No. 7, and Roots Indian Bistro in Los Angeles is No. 8.

Methodology

We ranked single-location independent US restaurants by Google review growth over the last 90 days, measured in July 2026. To qualify, a restaurant needed 500+ Google reviews and a 4-star rating or higher. We excluded chains and non-restaurants. The top 200 made the list, in ranked order.
